Solar Taxi, a Ghanaian Electric Vehicle ( EV) assembling company, has called on the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to discuss ways both entities can collaborate to support Ghana’s clean energy agenda and scale up e-mobility solutions across the country.

Management of the company during a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister, Richard Gyan-Mensah, said the Ministry’s clean energy drive aligns with company’s broader goal to deepen partnerships, and contribute to Ghana’s transition toward renewable and clean energy.

Detailing their operations to the Deputy Minister, management of Solar Taxi, said the company has been in clean energy business since 2019 and began assembling two wheelers in 2021 before expanding to three and four wheelers.

“Since our establishment, our company has produced more than 500 vehicles, we are currently working with international partners and also exploring other ways to scale-up our electric powered bus programme.” Mr. Loving Asibey Koranteng, Chief Investment Officer of the company, emphasised.

The Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Gyan-Mensah, welcomed the initiative and added that the government is open to collaborating with the private sector to augment Ghana’s green transition drive.

He said the government is committed to a sustainable energy agenda and called on sector players and investors to actively support clean energy drive.

The Ministry’s core mandate in the e-mobility space is focused on ensuring the availability of clean, sustainable electricity and support the development of EV charging infrastructure across the country.
The government is creating an enabling platform for private sector participation.

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has a five-year strategy to roll out e-vehicle charging infrastructure along highways to make it accessible to many Ghanaians as possible and also roll-out an intra and inter city electric buses system.

The initiative will provide smart meters to allow energy trading between EV operators and utilities, but the government will not offer direct funding. The programme will ensure the provision of smart meters to allow energy trading between EV operators and utilities.

The Ministry intends to engage stakeholders to outline long term plans and also explore areas for collaboration, particularly in infrastructure development and EV adoption nationwide.
