The Government of Ghana has announced plans to evacuate students from educational institutions in Bawku, Nalerigu, and surrounding communities following the imposition of a curfew in the conflict-hit areas.
The curfew, announced by the Ministry of the Interior, restricts movement from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily, effective Sunday, July 27, 2025, until further notice.
According to the government, the measure is not only to restore peace but also to ensure the safe removal of students, some of whom have reportedly been targeted during the ongoing unrest.
Speaking on behalf of the President, Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, said:
“The curfew is being enforced to create a secure environment for all residents, but more importantly, to protect and safely evacuate our students from affected areas. Some of these students have unfortunately been targeted in the conflict, and we cannot risk their safety.”
He added that security agencies are coordinating with school administrations and local authorities to expedite the evacuation.
“Government appeals to parents, guardians, and the general public to cooperate fully with security personnel to ensure the smooth and safe evacuation of these young people,” he emphasized.
The government has assured that more details on the evacuation process, including timelines and relocation plans, will be communicated as operations continue.
