The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams (MP), has called on Ghana’s Ambassadors and High Commissioners to actively project Ghana as a hub for sports and recreation investment in their missions abroad.
The Minister made this charge on September 4, 2025 at the oConference of Heads of Mission and Orientation Programme for Newly Appointed Envoys of Ghana, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration. The conference brought together envoys and experts from key national sectors to share strategies for advancing Ghana’s Economic Diplomacy Agenda, a critical pillar of the country’s reset plan.
Delivering his address, Hon. Adams highlighted strategic investment hotspots within the sports and recreation sector, including:
• Infrastructure development and facility management
• Fitness and health promotion industries
• Youth academies for talent identification and development
• Sports apparel and equipment manufacturing and distribution
He urged envoys to actively explore Public–Private Partnership (PPP) opportunities in these areas, stressing government’s commitment to building an enabling environment for investment and collaboration.
The Minister further outlined key policy interventions underway:
• The Sports Development Fund, which has received Presidential approval through Cabinet and will soon be laid before Parliament. The Fund will provide a long-term solution to the financial challenges facing sports and recreation.
• The National Recreation and Wellness Programme, anchored on National Aerobics Day and community integration initiatives, designed to promote mass participation, wellness, and inclusiveness.
• The School Sports Revitalisation Agenda, establishing systematic U12–U20 pathways in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, and tertiary institutions to restore Ghana’s grassroots sporting culture.
He emphasised that these initiatives are part of government’s broader commitment to reset Ghana’s sports sector, ensure sustainability through partnerships, and position Ghana globally as a competitive hub for sports diplomacy, talent development, and investment opportunities.
