General Secretary of General Agriculture Workers Union (GAWU) Edward Kareweh has expressed surprise at claims by the Minister for Food and Agriculture that the Planting for Food and Jobs has been 100% efficient.
Mr. Kareweh said the minister’s claim is contrary to the facts on the ground.
According to Mr. Kareweh, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto’s claim leaves no room for improvement despite the fact that the program seems to have run its full course and was not providing the help that the farmer needed.
Edward Kareweh was speaking in an interview with Sena Nombo on the Gold Morning Conversation.
Mr. Kareweh said the program had become incapable of even providing subsidized fertilizer in the quantities the farmer needed.
He said subsidies on fertilizer that was 50% had fallen to 15% for this farming season when the product had become very expensive.
He said the quantity of these fertilizers had even reduced and were not enough to meet the needs of the farmer.
Mr. Kareweh urged the minister to rather open up for a review of the program rather than make claims of success.
