Increasing fuel prices creating tensions between drivers and car owners

Taxi drivers in the nation’s capital Accra are left trembling anytime they have to render accounts to their car owners because of the crippling impact of rapidly increasing fuel prices.

Some drivers who spoke to Gold news expressedtheir displeasure how much they are left with after spending most of their sales on fuel making it difficult for themto meet their target.

According to Gaskia also known as ‘Fa vim ko’, a taxi driver at official town a suburb in Accra passengers are also compounding their situation by insisting on old fares.

“When passengers chatter taxi, they prefer to pay the amount which was previously being charged so it affects the sales”.

Station master at the official town GPRTU taxi station Mr Nicholas Mawuli complained about recent reductions in fuel prices describing them as small considering the rampant increments.

“Even when the prices of fuel drop, it is reduced by just ten pesewa and that is not encouraging at all”.

Other drivers Gold news spoke alsomentioned poor road network, too many police checkpoints, actions of city authorities and competition from Uber drivers.

They are therefore appealing to government to reduce the prices of fuel as it is making life difficult for them.
