Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. John Setor Dumelo, has reiterated his commitment to supporting local development initiatives as the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly commenced a new wave of infrastructure projects aimed at improving education, safety and community wellbeing.

Speaking during a sod-cutting ceremony in the municipality, Hon. Dumelo commended President John Dramani Mahama, the Ministry of Local Government, and the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly for prioritising grassroots development in one of Accra’s most strategic constituencies.

“Ayawaso West is indeed one of the best constituencies in this country, and we want it to remain as such,” the MP said, expressing optimism that the projects being launched would mark the beginning of sustained transformation across the area.
The projects, which cut across education, road safety, water and sanitation, align with the broader decentralisation and community-focused development agenda being pursued by government. Ayawaso West, home to major residential, commercial and educational hubs, continues to experience rapid urban growth, increasing the demand for modern classrooms, safe roads and improved public infrastructure.

Hon. Dumelo stressed the importance of quality execution, urging contractors and consultants to deliver work that meets high standards and attracts further investment into the constituency. “As much as possible, make sure the work is done and done well, so that we can attract more work in this beautiful constituency of ours,” he appealed.

Beyond construction, the MP highlighted the need for a stronger maintenance culture, cautioning that poorly maintained public infrastructure undermines long-term development gains. He called on residents and local stakeholders to protect completed projects to ensure they serve future generations.
“As soon as the building is done, we should take very good care of it. Sometimes our maintenance culture is not the best, but we have to do better,” he said.

Hon. Dumelo also assured constituents of his continued presence and support, both politically and personally. “As Member of Parliament, I am always here to support, always here to give you my prayers, and also to give some small financial support when I have it,” he noted.

The MP joined the Municipal Chief Executive in performing the sod-cutting ceremony, symbolising collaboration between Parliament and local government in advancing development at the community level.

The projects are expected to enhance the municipality’s reputation as a liveable, well-serviced urban constituency while reinforcing government’s commitment to inclusive, people-centred development in Ghana’s rapidly expanding urban spaces.
