The Kingmakers of Osu Traditional Council is urging the public to disregard Kinka Dowuona as the Chief of Osu. According to the kingmakers, Kinka Dowuona does not have legitimacy to the Osu Stool. Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, the Osiahene of Osu, Nii Nortey Adumuah IV underscored the need for all and sundry not to accord Kinka Dowuona the reverence given to Chiefs.
“We would like to emphasize that Michael Owoo aka Kinka Dowuona has not ever been installed Osu Mantse by the accredited Osu Kinkawe Dzaase. Kinka does not represent the good people of Osu. He represents himself”.
The Osiahene of Osu also alleged that “the Mankralo who follows him around has also been destooled. The Alata Mantse who was installed and sworn an oath to Nii Noetey Owoo has a questionable character, they both represent themselves and not the good people of their quarters.”
According to the Dzaase, “Osu has only one chief in the person of Nii Nortey Owuo III who was enstooled on 29 December 1984 as Osu Mantseas confirmed by the Supreme Court of Ghana. He has not been destooled, he has not abdicated nor called to the land of the ancestors. He is ALIVE, STRONG and MOVING, in fact he is in possession of the only symbol of authority to be Osu Mantse, Sei Kwame, the Osu Balck Stool. Who else has better claim to collecting rents on Osu Stool properties on behalf of the good people of Osu, Nii Nortey Owuo. It has been decided by the Supreme of Court of Ghana on May 17, 2006.”
The Osiahene of Osu appealed to government to always engage the rightful people of Osu in relations to issues that concern the area. “President Nana Akufo Addo, may we kindly and respectfully ask that not a plot of Osu Stool property or one cedi in cash should be given to Kinka Dowuona and his cohorts. He does not represent Osu and he is not accountable to anyone but himself. Mr. President, you may as Head of State of the Republic of Ghana make a decision as to how this matterof long standing Osu Chieftaincy dispute is resolved. Until then, Kinka does not qualify to receive one cedi on behalf of the people of Osu”, he emphasized.
The Dzaase of Osu also indicated that the longstanding disagreement has affected the fortunes of the communities in the traditional area.
“For years, this protracted dispute has led to a crippling sense of despair in our communities. Social development has stalled due to this chieftaincy issue and the people of Osu have borne the brunt of government inaction and that of the judiciary,” he reiterated.
