In a move to strengthen ties with its global community, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration on behalf of the nation has officially launched the Diaspora Summit 2025, a landmark event aimed at fostering collaboration, investment, and knowledge exchange. The launch, held at the Ministry, was led by its minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and signifies a renewed national commitment to the diaspora.
The summit, organized by the Office of the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is positioned as a pivotal platform to transform the collective strength of Ghanaians at home and abroad into a powerful force for progress. In his address, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa underscored the vital role the diaspora plays in shaping Ghana’s image, investing in its economy, and contributing invaluable knowledge and skills.
”This summit stands as a testament to Ghana’s vision of transforming our collective strength into a force for progress,” Ablakwa stated. “Our brothers and sisters abroad continue to play a vital role in shaping the image of our nation, investing in our economy, and contributing to the transfer of knowledge, skills, and networks.”
The initiative, he stated is part of President John Dramani Mahama’s “resetting Ghana” agenda, which aims to create a business-friendly and accountable environment for both local and foreign investors. The Minister reassured the diaspora that Ghana, as the “center of the world,” is ready for business, emphasizing that their investments are safe not just because Ghana is their home, but because the government is actively building a conducive environment for growth and nation-building.
He further highlighted the significance of the diaspora as the “17th Region of Ghana,” an integral part of the nation’s fabric, noting that the summit is a celebration of the diaspora’s invaluable place in the country’s development agenda, with plans to lead to tangible impacts in areas such as investment, innovation, education, health, and cultural exchange.
The launch of the summit coincides with a period of renewed focus on African reparations, a campaign championed by President John Dramani Mahama. The Foreign Affairs Minister clarified that this movement is not just about historical justice but also a call for Africans and their descendants to build their own economic liberation through collective energy and collaboration.
On behalf of the President and the Government of Ghana, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa extended a warm invitation to all diaspora communities worldwide, urging them to join in this historic opportunity to break barriers and collectively build a prosperous Ghana.
