The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Richard Kofi Asiedu, has apologised to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and Obaatanpa Radio after withdrawing a GH¢10 million defamation suit he filed against the Cape Coast-based station.
Addressing the media, Mr. Asiedu said his visit to the station had been misconstrued, insisting that he never intended to interfere with its operations or halt any of its programmes.
“My mission for going to Obaatanpa was never to shut down their programme because that would be unethical and unconstitutional,” he stated.
According to him, his visit was solely to engage the station’s management and discuss concerns arising from its coverage, with the aim of finding an amicable way forward.
Mr. Asiedu also appealed to media organisations across the country to uphold the principles of responsible journalism and professionalism in their work.
He further clarified that the GH¢10 million lawsuit was never intended to cripple or collapse the station financially.
The NDC Chairman disclosed that he had heeded the Ghana Journalists Association’s call to discontinue the legal action and had consequently withdrawn the suit.
