Former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio and National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has announced his resignation from the position to pursue a national executive position within the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement issued on Thursday, Vanderpuye said his decision followed “careful reflection” and was aimed at enabling him to seek a leadership role within the party while continuing to serve the country in a different capacity.

He described his tenure as National Coordinator of DRIP as a great honour and privilege, expressing gratitude to John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity to contribute to a programme focused on improving local infrastructure across the country.

“It has been a great honour and privilege to serve His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana in this role,” he stated, adding that DRIP has played a significant role in transforming local infrastructure and improving livelihoods in communities.

According to Vanderpuye, his resignation is motivated by his desire to strengthen the NDC and contribute to the growth of Ghana’s democratic institutions through a new leadership role within the party.

He reaffirmed his commitment to President Mahama’s vision and the success of his administration, noting that he leaves office with pride in the achievements recorded under the programme.

“I remain fully committed to the vision of President Mahama, the success of his administration, and the ideals of the NDC,” he said.

Vanderpuye also expressed optimism about the future of the District Road Improvement Programme, saying the initiative is well-positioned to continue delivering infrastructure development benefits to communities nationwide.

His resignation is expected to pave the way for internal party activities ahead of upcoming NDC executive elections, where he is anticipated to seek a national leadership position.

The District Road Improvement Programme was established to support road maintenance and infrastructure development at the district level, with the goal of improving accessibility and promoting local economic growth.
