The vice presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang has cautioned politicians to desist from denigrating the reputation of fellow politicians.
According to her time and posterity will always vindicate the innocent.
Her comment comes in the wake of the announcement by Special Prosecutor Kissi Adjabeng that he found no wrongdoing in the procurement of aircrafts for the military.
The announcement by the Special Prosecutor concluded a four year long campaign of vilification and name calling after a UK Crown Court announced a deferred judgment with AirBus SE after investigations into global operations of the aviation giants.
Since 2020, the former President John Mahama and the past NDC administration have been the subject of investigations at the instance of President Akufo-Addo who personally petitioned the OSP to look into the matter.
Kissi Adjabeng at a press conference said the investigations found no wrongdoing against the former President or any other appointee of the erstwhile administration in the purchase of the aircrafts for the Ghana Airforce.
The NDC has described the announcement of the OSP as a vindication of the integrity of the NDC Flagbearer John Mahama who was the target of the smear campaign launched by the NPP.
Speaking at this year’s Meko Bono festival in the Bono region, Professor Opoku-Agyemang entreated colleague politicians to focus on issues that will better the lives of Ghanaians rather than engaging in politics of personal attacks.
She stressed the need for integrity and respect among politicians.
She was addressing a gathering of traditional leaders, sons, and daughters of the Bonoland, and other dignitaries at the annual event aimed at promoting the cultural history and identity of the Bono people.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang also reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to improving the quality of education at all levels, stressing that education is key to unlocking the potential of the country’s youth.
The Meko Bono festival provided a platform for Professor Opoku-Agyemang to connect with the people of Bono and share the NDC’s vision for the country.
The Meko Bono Festival celebrates the rich cultural history and identity of the Bono people. It serves as a platform for communal solidarity, attracting participants from various backgrounds, including traditional leaders, and community members.
