President Akufo Addo has with immediate effect appointed a retiree to replace the retiring David Asante Apeatu as IGP.
The deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP) James Oppong-Boanuh like his boss has passed his retirement age and is currently serving a two year contract but has been directed to take over as acting IGP.
A press statement from the presidency noted the president Akuffo Addo has ordered the IGP, David Asante Apeatu to immediately proceed on leave pending his retirement on August 14, 2019.
It will be recalled that, President Akufo Addo in 2017 handed COP David Asante Apeatu a two year contract to continue in his capacity as IGP after he attained the mandatory retirement age of 60.
A similar gesture was extended to James Oppong-Boanuh in October 2018 when he was given a one year contract to continue in his capacity as the deputy IGP.
James Oppong-Boanuh will act as IGP until a substantive person is appointed for the position.
