A group in the Tema East constituency of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) are raising concerns over schemes being undertaken by two disqualified aspirants of the party to overturn the ruling by the recently held vetting committee in the constituency.
According to the group that describes themselves as the committed loyal and aggrieved members of the NDC in Tema East, they have picked signals that the Greater Accra regional appeals committee intends to overturn the decision of the constituency vetting committee of two aspirants of the party namely Theophilus Ankama Densu Tetteh; a constituency chairman hopeful and David Agyemang; a youth organizer hopeful were all disqualified.
The youth group in a press conference addressed by Branch Youth Organizer, U -Central Branch, Wisdom Torsu noted that one Theophilus Ankama Densu Tetteh resigned from the party in 2016 to contest independent parliamentary elections, which he lost.
Later he came to rejoin the party in 2020 only to come back and declare his intention to contest a position in the party.
They said Theophilus Ankama Dwnsu Tetteh is less than two years since rejoined the party as a member of the NDC in Tema East and he has no good standing as the youths alleged that he had only paid one year’s dues since he rejoined the party and swapped one Abdul Rahim Yahaya; a secretary of the Agbalai branch of Tema East NDC membership card and infused his name as the owner.
They are along with the petitioning of the Greater Accra Regional appeals committee of the National Democratic Congress appealing to the Appeal committee to uphold the rules of engagement which stipulates that for a person to qualify to contest elections at the constituency level, the aspirant must be a member of the party in good standing in a branch in the constituency and must have paid dues from 2018 and must have been a member of the party for the last four years, this the group emphasize Theophilus Ankama Densu has failed to meet.
In the case of David Agyemang who is disqualified youth organizer, he joined the NDC party officially less than two years and hence he is not qualified for the group indicated.
The group however while alleging asks whether the Tema East Member of Parliament, Isaac Ashai Odamten interest in pushing for Theophilus Ankama Tetteh to become the chairman of the party is due to his personal relationship with him or…otherwise.
They opined that during the 2020 general elections Theophilus Ankama Densu Tetteh one way or the other was in support of Isaac Odamten who today is the M.P of the constituency.
According to the loyal faithful and aggrieved members of the NDC in Tema East, allowing the two to overturn the vetting committee ruling will mean a Political party like a well-cherished NDC who upholds the rule of law on the basis of accountability will render them useless and become a weapon for chastity.
