In the wake of the debate on the fight against corruption, the Ga North NCCE has been engaging residents and opinion leaders of Asofan in the Ga North Municipality of the Greater Accra Region on the importance of the whistleblowing.
Whistleblowing is the act of disclosing information about another person’s impropriety to person(s) or institutions tasked in the whistleblowers’ act to fight corruption.
Speaking at forum, the Municipal Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) Mrs Araba Awua Boateng challenged residents of Asofan to be courageous and bold to report improprieties by public officers or organizations.
She expressed concern with the tendency of Ghanaians to be tight-lipped on corruption or alleged illegal activities in their community out of the fear of being attacked or victimized.
Mrs. Boateng however assured residents that, adequate provisions have been made through the enactment of law that protects the whistleblowers hence they must be bold to report any wrongdoing in their community in furtherance of the fight against corruption.
Deputy Director for programmes at the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) madam Joanna Nkansah encouraged residents especially opinion leaders to aid the efforts of the Commission to educate the citizens on the whistleblower act.
She however warned whistleblowers to ensure the information they give out are correct because whistleblowers can also be liable for prosecution under the same law if the information they give turn out to be false.
The officer in charge of the NCCE in Ga North madam Faustina Blewusi expressed gratitude for the interest of residents and assured her office will continue to engage with the various communities within the Municipality on the importance of the whistleblower in the fight against corruption and other forms of unlawful conduct that undermine national development.
The forum was attended by Assembly woman for Asofan electoral area madam Doris Agyare Frimpong, pastors, opinion leaders, among others.
