The Socialist Movement of Ghana has commended the 80 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament who have openly called for the dismissal of Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta.
The MPs who announced their demands at a brief press conference in Parliament on Tuesday 25 October 2022 believe the replacement of the Finance Minister and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry Charles Adu Boahen would sound out the Global and local financial market and revive confidence in the Ghanaian economy.
In a statement issued and signed by its General Secretary Kwesi Pratt Jr., the Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG) described the move by the NPP MPs as courageous.
SMG was also of the opinion that the move by the NPP MPs would make it “impossible for the President to dismiss those calling for a reshuffle as “unemployed” or “NDC”.”
“The move also reflects growth in our parliamentary practice and our MPs’ independence.”
“It legitimizes strikes as instruments for achieving economic and political agendas. It is a victory for the broader quest for political accountability, guaranteeing that Administration officials (and indeed all officials) will be held to account in the future,” the movement stated.
