John Mahama’s running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang was met with an outpouring of support from thousands of supporters during her campaign visit to Bole-Bamboi in the Savannah Region.
Footage shared on Radio Gold’s Facebook page captured the electrifying atmosphere with supporters clad in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) colors to welcome Ghana’s first female vice-presidential candidate from a major political party.
The video captured a spirited crowd drumming, singing, and dancing to well-known NDC campaign songs, depicting the excitement surrounding the event.
During her visit, Professor Opoku Agyemang honored the memory of former President Mahama’s late father by visiting his gravesite, where she offered prayers for his soul and sought spiritual blessings for her campaign.
The Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, Sulemana Yusif acknowledged the constituency’s reputation as an NDC stronghold but said there was the need for vigilance as the elections approach.
“We are determined to achieve more than 90 percent of the votes in the upcoming election to secure a decisive victory for the party,” he stated.
Former NDC National Chairman Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo raised concerns about the credibility of the ruling government’s claims regarding infrastructure development, specifically their assertion of constructing over 12,000 kilometers of roads.
“What has the NPP been doing for eight years if they cannot complete projects in the Savannah region?” he questioned, expressing disappointment with the current administration.
In her address, Professor Opoku Agyemang reiterated the NDC’s commitment to youth empowerment and national development.
She outlined sime key policies from the party’s manifesto, including a 24-hour economy initiative, the establishment of a Women’s Development Bank, and a National Apprenticeship Program.
“The NDC is dedicated to empowering the youth,” she asserted, positioning the party as a beacon of hope for the younger generation.
She called for a trustworthy leader, saying “We need an honest leader — someone who speaks the truth. That leader is President John Dramani Mahama.”
