SIC Insurance PLC has launched a fleet of electric vehicles as part of a broader green transition strategy aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and supporting Ghana’s climate action agenda.
Speaking at the outdooring ceremony, the Managing Director of SIC Insurance PLC, James Agyenim-Boateng, described the initiative as another defining moment in the company’s history and a significant step towards reducing its environmental footprint.
He noted that the move aligns with the Government of Ghana’s commitment to climate action through energy transition and sustainable development policies, including the promotion of renewable energy, cleaner transportation solutions and reduced carbon emissions.
According to Mr. Agyenim-Boateng, SIC Insurance began its sustainability journey over a year ago with a pilot project to power selected branches using solar energy. He said the project had yielded encouraging results, prompting plans to extend solar installations to major branches across the country.
“Today, we take the next deliberate step on that journey,” he said, as he officially unveiled the company’s Green Transition Agenda alongside the new fleet of electric vehicles and supporting charging infrastructure.
The Managing Director explained that the vehicles represent more than a change in transportation, describing them as a reflection of the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
“As an insurance company, our business has always been about managing risk and protecting what matters. Climate change is, without question, one of the greatest risks of our time,” he stated.
He said it would be inconsistent for the company to provide protection against risks while remaining indifferent to one of the greatest threats facing communities, economies and property worldwide.
Mr. Agyenim-Boateng commended the Board of Directors, management and staff of SIC Insurance for supporting the initiative, and expressed appreciation to partners and stakeholders who continue to support the company’s sustainability vision.
He stressed that modern businesses must balance profitability with environmental stewardship and social impact, adding that SIC Insurance remains committed to responsible corporate citizenship and adapting to global trends.
The Managing Director urged other institutions to consider their role in promoting sustainability, expressing hope that the company’s efforts would inspire wider adoption of environmentally friendly practices across the country.
He described the launch of the electric vehicle fleet as the beginning of a broader transformation agenda, noting that more sustainability milestones are expected as SIC Insurance seeks to strengthen its position as a leader in the insurance industry while contributing to a greener future for Ghana.
