The Parliamentary Caucus has expressed profound sorrow and heartfelt condolences following a tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of some prominent Ghanaians. The incident, which occurred today, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, has plunged the nation into deep mourning.
In a statement signed by the Majority Leader, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, the caucus mourned the devastating loss of key government officials, a pilot and co-pilot, and some distinguished citizens.
The victims were identified as:
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central
Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate
Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala – Pilot
Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu – Co-pilot
Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah – Crew member
“Their untimely and tragic demise is a devastating blow to Parliament, the Government, the Armed Forces, and the people of Ghana,” the statement read.
On behalf of the Parliamentary Caucus, Ayariga joined the President and all Ghanaians in extending deepest sympathies to the bereaved families. He paid tribute to the victims, acknowledging their dedication and service to the nation.
“Their sacrifice, patriotism, and commitment to duty will forever be etched in the history of our Republic,” he said. “May their souls rest in peace.”
