The Ghana Tourism Development Company Limited (GTDC) has unveiled a new digital marketplace aimed at transforming the country’s tourism landscape and driving sustainable economic growth.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Accra City Hotel, the Chief Executive Officer of GTDC, Professor Kobby Mensah, described the soon-to-be-launched platform as “a game changer for Ghana’s tourism industry.”
“This is part of Ghana’s broader strategy to position itself as the premier destination for tourism in Africa. The marketplace will not only serve as a one-stop shop for travellers but also as a catalyst for economic growth, ensuring that tourism in Ghana is not only profitable but also sustainable,” he said.
The centralised platform is expected to connect tourists, tourism service providers, and potential investors in real time, creating a digital hub that improves travel planning, increases destination visibility, and boosts private sector engagement.
Professor Mensah explained that the platform forms part of GTDC’s wider “reset agenda” to reposition Ghana on the global tourism map. He noted that the initiative includes ongoing efforts to restore abandoned tourist sites, profile untapped destinations, and mobilise funding to showcase the country’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
“We are not just selling places, we are offering experiences,” the GTDC boss noted, adding that “our goal is to create a modern and seamless way for both local and international visitors to explore Ghana, while at the same time building a strong business case for tourism investment.”
Ghana remains one of West Africa’s most compelling travel destinations, known for its hospitality, colourful festivals, ancient castles, national parks, and vibrant coastal life. This new digital shift will bridge accessibility gaps, simplify tourist engagement, and present new opportunities for jobs, growth, and international partnerships.
GTDC says it is working closely with both public and private partners to ensure the platform supports local communities and reflects the country’s long-term commitment to green and inclusive tourism development.
As Ghana prepares to compete more aggressively on the international tourism stage, Professor Mensah made a passionate call to action: “We want to reset the narrative. Ghana is open, Ghana is ready, and with this platform, Ghana is set to lead the way in African tourism.”
