The District Chief Executive Officer (DCE) of Shama in the Western Region, Joseph Amoah is calling on the citizenry to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 measures put in place by the government to curb the continuous spread of the novel coronavirus outbrake.
He says though Ghana has recorded a high number of recoveries from the pandemic, there is still the need to exercise extreme caution and not be complacent by continuously wearing nose mask, washing of hands, social distancing, among others.
This he believes if followed thoroughly will help win the fight against Covid-19, urging the citizenry to be serious with the COVID-19 preventive measures directed by the president and health professionals.
“As the president has always said, we should not be complacent because of this promising figures, we should drop our guard and we should at this moment be serious about the measures that the state has put in place, washing of hands, wearing of face mask, social distancing, use of sanitizers, among others”, he opined.
Mr. Amoah made the call when he was speaking at the launch of the second phase of the nationwide disinfection and fumigation exercise carried out by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and Zoomlion Ghana Limited at Shama District Assembly on Saturday.
According to him , the central government’s effort to have all markets, lorry sparks and other public places disinfected against the virus was commendable.
About thirteen(13) markets, forty nine(49) public toilets, all lorry parks in the Shama district as well as public health facilities especially the CHIP compounds benefited from the exercise.
Earlier, the Metro Coordinating Director of Sekondi -Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly(STMA), John Nana Owu at the launch of a similar exercise at Kojokrom in the Essikado Sub-Metro told journalist that apart from the measures instituted by central government, the assembly has among others set up a task force to enforce strict adherence of the protocols. He pleaded with the residents in the metropolis to follow the COVID-19 preventive measures.
Commenting on the easing of the restrictions by the government, Mr Anawul pleaded with general public to be disciplined with regards to their behavior and support governments effort at combating the pandemic.
In all, 35 markets, lorry stations public places within the Kojokrom enclave benefitted from the disinfection and fumigations exercise.
Places disinfected included Kojokrom market, Essikado Ketan market and Lorry station, Shama Health Centre, Shama Abor public toilet, Shama junction market and taxi station, among others.
