The Association of Graduates in Skills Development-Ghana (AGSD-GH) has served notice it will rise against President Akufo-Addo if his government continues failing his promise to create sustainable jobs for the scores of unemployed youth in the country.
The group which is formerly known as the Unemployed Graduates Association of Ghana (UGAG) in a statement issued and signed by its President Desmond Bress-Biney expressed its disappointment with the Nana Akufo-Addo led administration’s slow progress of efforts aimed creating job opportunities for the youth.
AGSD-GH is particularly worried because of what they describe as an alarming increase in the numbers of unemployed youth.
“AGSD-GH wish to unequivocally express our frustration and disappointment in the current NPP government led by the President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for their slow-paced approach to solving the alarming upsurge in the unemployment situation in the country,” it said.
According to the group moves by government to address the unemployment situation have failed to achieve the desired results.
“The truth is, we are gradually losing faith in the unemployment intervention programmes being championed by this administration, as they seem not to provide any clear panacea to the remediation of the unemployment situation in the country.”
“The point is, government’s strategy to dealing with the problem is not working effectively,” AGSD-GH said.
AGSD-GH also bemoaned what they see as the NPP government’s zeal to deal with the unemployment situation without demonstrating that they have a clear plan to dealing with the worrying situation.
“We see a government that is eager to find solutions to the unemployment situation in the country but lacks direction and concrete roadmap,” the group stated.
The group has therefore advised the President to get to work to fulfilling his job creation or face the wrath of unemployed youths who backed his 2016 bid.
“We wish to bring to the attention of the president that the youth rallied solidly behind him because we believed in his promises on jobs creation during the 2016 campaign and so, he can’t afford to disappoint us. We also wish to remind him that same as the youth rallied behind him during the 2016 elections, we can rise against him if we feel cheated and unsatisfied,” AGSD-GH said
