Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has checked out of his duties as president though he is still in office.
The scathing criticism from the revered lawyer was in response to pronouncements made by President Akufo Addo that he would not take action against persons engaged in illegal based on rumors.
At a meeting with the National House of Chiefs to seek their support and advice on the fight against galamsey, the president said he will hastily punish his appointees accused of engaging or condoning illegal mining if sufficient evidence is not adduced.
But reacting to the claims on Newsfile on Joy FM, Martin Kpebu argued that such utterances by the President were in direct contravention of his own pledge to use the Anas Principle in fighting crime.
“The President has checked out long ago. He is just now walking and enjoying the Presidency. Very shameful. These things he is satiate very shameful. He is a lawyer and doesn’t deal with that. Is he not the same Nana Akufo Addo who said he will work with the Anas principles? And today there is even evidence and he says to go give the tape and talk to the Minister to explain himself. You see how he has done a U-turn?” Martin Kpebu questioned.
He wondered why the state through mandated institutions have failed to arrest and prosecute Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party Bernard Antwi Bosiako popularly called Chairman Wontumi over the activities of his company, Akonta mining Ltd in the Nimiri forest.
