Over twenty mothers at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital who were confined to their wards have heaved a sigh of relief following the payment of their medical bills by the Bank of Ghana Ladies Association.
The mothers who for quite some time now were unable to go home despite successful delivery were confined to their respective wards which saw some of them expressing various degrees of worry and felt embarrassed by the situation.
But the timely intervention of the Bank of Ghana Ladies Association saw them beaming with smiles after the association presented GHC 34,000.00 to management of the health facility to settle the medical bills of the mothers.
At a short ceremony to present the cash to the hospital, President of the association, Ivy Adjimah indicated that the gesture was part of the group’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives to assisting the vulnerable in society especially women during the celebration of International Women’s’ Day.
She also stressed that as the world continues to celebrate the economic, political, social and cultural achievement of women there are others who cannot help themselves and their families that’s why the association came to the rescue of such women at the hospital.
Madam Adjimah indicated that the move was not only important but also timely considering this period where virtually the entire world is plunged into economic challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
She therefore advised the public to strictly adhere to government’s directives on COVID-19 by staying at home, observing hygienic and safety protocols particularly on social or physical distancing to help prevent the spread the disease.
For his part, Director of Administration at the hospital, Munir Alhassan who received the cheque on behalf of management expressed gratitude to the Bank of Ghana Ladies Association for the gesture.
Mr. Alhassan also explained that it is necessary for patients to fulfill their financial obligations after treatment since it is equally important as the treatment itself stressing on the need for all recovered patients to go through all the processes in order to be fully discharged completely by the heal facility.
Meanwhile the gesture by the Bank of Ghana Ladies Association will cover 24 nursing mothers, some women from the surgical ward and also bills of some children from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
