The Member of Parliament for Ewutu Senya East, Philis Naa Koryo Oku, has released a statement clarifying recent remarks she made regarding the ongoing national investigation into incidents of election-related violence.
In her statement to the media, the MP sought to address concerns that her initial comments suggested a denial of attacks during the election period. She emphasized that her primary intent was to stress the need for a thorough, fair, and evidence-based investigation by the task force assigned to probe the incidents.
”I never said there were no attacks,” she clarified. “What I meant was that we must focus on the truth and allow the investigative bodies to do their work fairly.”
The legislator recounted her personal experience of the high-stakes election period, describing the tense atmosphere and the emotional toll it took on her and her team, underscoring the severity of the environment. She urged investigators to approach their work impartially, ensuring that their findings are strictly based on facts and concrete evidence.
The clarification comes amid heightened national attention on the findings of the task force investigating violence recorded during Ghana’s recent elections.
Koryo also expressed her sincere appreciation to the President, the Minister for the Interior, and the Speaker of Parliament for their leadership in addressing the sensitive issue. She further extended gratitude to the security agencies and the members of her constituency for maintaining calm throughout the process.
Concluding her statement, Naa Koryoo issued a strong call for reconciliation and unity, stressing the need to move forward collectively despite political differences.
”I see myself as a mother for all, whether you voted for me or not, we are one family. Peace and development must always come first,” she affirmed.
