The minority in Parliament has accused Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia of running away from legitimate questions about the use of GH¢23billion to collapse various financial institutions.
The Vice President went on the attack accusing former President John Mahama of supervising the collapse of the financial industry forcing the Nana Akufo-Addo led administration to revoke the license of some financial institutions after the latter raised issues with the approach to dealing with the issues in the sector.
The minority however says the Vice President is just avoiding the germane issues of jobs losses, loss of confidence in the financial sector and the handing of the financial sector to foreign control.
The minority was speaking at a press conference addressed by Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Isaac Adongo who described the Vice President’s outbursts as laughable.
“Unfortunately, instead of answers, the Vice President has adopted his infamous deceptive trait of looking elsewhere to blame for he and the President’s incompetent handling of what has become a full blown crisis.”
“His attempt to blame the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), H.E. John Dramani Mahama, for the collapse of the banks is rather laughable,” he stated.
The minority said the Vice President who is the Head of the Economic management team should rather focus on outlining “concrete measures to deal with the excruciating unemployment caused by the collapse and the loss of livelihoods, credit and liquidity crunch and dwindling confidence in the financial sector.”
“Ghanaians are struggling to come with terms with how the badly planned and poor implementation of a minimum capital regime has virtually destroyed Ghana’s financial sector,” they stated.
