Former Member of Parliament for Tema East, Titus Nii Kwartei Glover has accused some members of his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for thwarting the government’s effort to end illegal mining, also known as galamsay. In Ghana.
According to him the fight against galamsay has become difficult for the Government because some members of the Party are involved in it.
“Our own Party people involved in the illegal mining business have made the fight against galamsay difficult. It’s a fact that they are engaged galamsay.

He says he does not understand why soldiers have to move all the way from Accra to the bushes to chase and arrest illegal miners when they are Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who are heads of security at the local level.
The issue of illegal mining has become topical in recent times in the Ghanaian media following the release of images and videos showing how Ghana’s water bodies are being destroyed by the activities of illegal miners.
