President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Ghana Airports Company to secure funding for the construction of a new airport in the Upper East Region.
This project aims to boost economic activities and improve connectivity in the region.
The airport will be developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, in collaboration with gold mining companies in the region, to facilitate the safe transportation of gold bullion from the Upper East Region to Accra.
In addition to the airport project, President Mahama announced plans to expand rural electrification in the region.
Phase Two of the 10 key electrification projects will connect more communities to the national grid, stimulating local businesses and improving living conditions.
A significant part of this initiative will focus on off-grid solar solutions for remote communities beyond the reach of the national transmission grid.
This is not the first time President Mahama has initiated airport development projects.
Previously, he announced plans to build new airports in Ho, Bolgatanga, and Cape Coast, and broke ground for the expansion of the Tamale Airport.
