President John Dramani Mahama is expected to arrive in Lusaka, Zambia, shortly for a three-day state visit at the invitation of Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema.
The President will be arriving from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he attended the 2026 World Governments Summit.
He is travelling aboard an aircraft provided by the President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a gesture reflecting the strong diplomatic ties between Ghana and the UAE.
A ceremonial welcome is scheduled to take place at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, with President Hichilema, members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials from both Ghana and Zambia, as well as cultural performers expected to be in attendance.
A major highlight of the visit will be President Mahama’s address to the National Assembly of Zambia.
He is expected to articulate Ghana’s vision for a more integrated, resilient, and prosperous Africa, with emphasis on regional cooperation, economic transformation, and sustainable development.
The address comes only days after international development publication Devex ranked President Mahama as the fifth most powerful individual in global development and changemaking. The ranking cited his leadership in advancing the Accra Reset agenda.
President Mahama has played a leading role in championing the Accra Reset, a global policy framework he formally launched to reform international development institutions, financing mechanisms, and international partnerships as the world approaches the end of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) era.
The initiative argues that traditional development models are increasingly inadequate in addressing rising debt burdens, climate shocks, and fragile health systems, particularly in the Global South.
Ahead of the visit, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Zambia, Elizabeth Nyantakyi, said the engagement would further strengthen bilateral relations between Ghana and Zambia.
She disclosed that several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) are expected to be signed during the visit, including a visa waiver agreement between the two countries.
