The Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission, Ishmael Agyekumhene has expressed confidence that uncollectible revenues by the utilities will be effectively addressed.
Radiogollive.com has gathered that uncollectible revenues currently stand at two percent from five percent in 2018 which according to Mr. Agyekumhene is a cost of doing business in the power sector.
Speaking at a press briefing on the recent hikes in utilities, the Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission said “gradually we are pushing the utilities to a regime where that we that they collect every bill that they issue, but there are challenges that they say that they cannot guarantee hundred percent collection.”
“We expected that with PDS coming in and with probably improved technology and a lot more revenue mobilization, we will be able to do hundred percent so that in the next tariff review window probably we will be talking about zero uncollectible.
“But unfortunately we can’t do zero now because from the utilities point of view it is practically impossible to expect them to be able to collect everything. Yes we are doing something about it and that’s the reason why that has dropped from five to two percent. Gradually we hope to achieve zero percent if the right investments are made or we are satisfy that we can hold them to hundred percent collectible,” he added.
