Asana Imoro, the Kwebre East Municipal Environmental Health Officer, in an interview with the media was elated that government has finally taken a step to evacuate the refuse dumps which according to her has troubled residents living around the dumpsites for years.
“For the past three years I have been in this district, we have made several attempts at evacuating some of these dumpsites, but it has all proved futile. Last year we even brought in machines to start but it couldn’t work, so am happy that at long last the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources has taking the initiative to relief the residents living around the dumpsites,’’ she said.
She was however not bemused about the illegal dumping of waste at some of these dumpsites by the residents, describing the practice as disturbing and could pose serious health issues for the residents.
For his part the Municipal Environmental Health Analyst for the Mampong Municipal Assembly, Mr. Charles Yeboah Asiedu told journalist that the evacuation of the refuse dumps which has become a major headache for most assemblies will go a long a way to improve the sanitary conditions in the district and also save the assembly some scarce resources.
