The Ghana Water company Limited (GWCL) says it will not be responsible for any damage caused during the spillage of the Weija dam.
This is after the company has announced to the general public that it will soon open the Weija Dam to let out excess water, as part of routine measures to protect the dam from bursting.
The GWCL in view of this has cautioned residents close to the Dam who may be affected by the exercise to relocate.
In an interview on Accra based star fm monitored by radiogoldlive.com, communications Manager for the company, Mr Stanley Martey said his outfit will not be responsible for any damage that may arise as a result of the exercise since residents in the area have been educated and given ample time to relocate.
“We have gotten in touch with teachers, traditional ruler, opinion leaders and we have been doing house to house sensitization as well. We are also liaising with the National Security to dredge the estuary so that there will be easy flow of water in to the sea. NADMO is also informed so if there is any eventuality, they will be able to come in.
The exercise is necessary due to the recent heavy rains.
The management of GWCL said the level of the water is rising and getting close to the maximum threshold of 47ft hence the need to spill excess water.
