The bail application filed by lawyers for Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been adjourned to October 15, 2026, extending the wait for a determination on his request for release.
The court deferred proceedings after hearing arguments on the application, with counsel for Wontumi pressing for bail while the prosecution opposed the request.
The adjournment is expected to allow outstanding legal processes and relevant documentation connected to the application to be completed before the matter returns to court.
Wontumi’s legal team had approached the court seeking bail as part of ongoing efforts to secure his release while pursuing available legal remedies in relation to his case.
The prosecution, however, resisted the application, leaving the court to consider the competing arguments advanced by both sides.
With the matter now adjourned, no determination has been made on the merits of the bail application, and Wontumi will have to wait until the court reconvenes on October 15 for further proceedings.
The latest development adds another stage to the legal battle surrounding the NPP regional chairman, whose case has attracted considerable political and public attention.
The court is expected to take up the bail application and related processes when proceedings resume on the scheduled date.
