President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Cabinet will soon approve a series of priority infrastructure projects under the Big Push initiative.
The announcement was made during his thank-you tour of the Upper West Region at the Jubilee Park in Wa.
A significant portion of these projects will focus on the road sector. Among the key initiatives is the dualization of major highways, including the Accra–Kumasi, Accra–Takoradi, and Accra–Aflao roads. These improvements aim to ease congestion and improve safety on some of Ghana’s busiest transport corridors.
Bridge construction is also a major focus, with new bridges planned for Dambai, Daboya, and Yapei to enhance connectivity across critical river crossings.
President Mahama further revealed plans for a new expressway between Accra and Kumasi, which is expected to cut travel time between the two major cities to just two and a half hours.
In addition, selected sections of the Fufulso–Sawla road will be resurfaced, a move designed to boost connectivity among the Upper West, Savannah, and Northern regions.
“These roads will not only enhance trade and transportation,” President Mahama stated, “but also stimulate cross-border business and revive economic activities across the country.”
