The Constitutional Review Consultative Committee, set up by the government, has suggested putting a limit on the number of Members of Parliament (MPs).
The committee thinks that changes should be made to Article 93 to make sure that Parliament does not have more than 277 elected Members.
They believe that this would also mean changing Article 47. This change would ensure that Ghana is divided into as many areas for electing MPs as the Electoral Commission (EC) decides, but the number of these areas cannot be more than 277.
This information was shared during a meeting with different groups to talk about possibly changing the 1992 constitution. The meeting was held in Parliament in Accra on Thursday.
The committee also suggested limiting the size of the government and removing the ability to appoint Deputy Ministers.
They argue that the role of Regional Ministers should be removed, just like the role of Deputy Ministers.
The committee said that the President should appoint as many Ministers of State as needed to run the country well. However, the number of Ministers should not be more than 25.
