#dropthechamber : Ghanaians angry at govt over new parliamentary chamber

Social media has over the past few days been raging over government’s plans to construct a new chamber for parliament.

A campaign on twitter with the hash tag “dropthechamber” has already attracted huge support and has been trending with with Ghanaians from all walks of life throwing their weight behind the campaign against against government’s plan.

Speaker of parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye yesterday unveiled the design of the chamber that is proposed to cost $243million, an amount which has infuriated most Ghanaians.

He also disclosed that the 450 seater parliamentary chamber has been endorsed by President Akuffo Addo.

While some of the social media users suggest that the plan is shows that the priorities of the country have been misplaced, others propose that instead of a new chamber, government should focus on investing in dealing with pressing issues like unemployment, poor education system amongst others.

The campaign against the new chamber continues to gain more followers as more Ghanaians join with “#dropthechamber”
