The Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Opoku-Agyemang, has called on the residents of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL) to reciprocate the party’s efforts in advocating for their voting rights by casting their votes for the NDC in the upcoming elections on December 7.
Speaking at Likpe to begin her two-day tour of the Oti Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated that the people of SALL were unjustly disenfranchised during the 2020 elections, when they were prevented from electing their representative in Parliament.
Despite the obvious need for a new constituency to be created after the creation of the Oti region and the altering of the borders of the Hohoe constituency, the Electoral Commission failed to act in time and made a last minute decision that prevented residents from Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, Likpe from electing their Member of Parliament.
The decision was met with widespread condemnation from many quarters and was viewed as a violation of the constitutional rights of the people of SALL.
After going four years without representation, the residents of SALL would exercise their voting rights when they join fellow Ghanaians from all walks of life to elect a president to lead Ghana and a Member of parliament to represent them on December 7, 2024 following the creation of the Guan constituency.
Speaking during a campaign tour of the newly created Guan constituency, NDC Vice presidential Candidate Prof Opoku Agyemang urged voters in the Guan constituency to demonstrate their unhappiness with the four years of injustice they have suffered by rejecting the NPP.
The NDC vice presidential candidate further criticized the ruling government for hindering infrastructure development in the area over the past four years.
She expressed gratitude to the lawyers and advocates who fought for the reversal of the Electoral Commission’s decision that sidelined SALL residents in 2020.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also cautioned voters to be wary of government inducements aimed at influencing their decisions, stressing the importance of making informed choices at the polls.
She outlined the NDC’s commitment to creating job opportunities for youth and providing financial empowerment for women through initiatives such as a 24-hour economy policy, the Women’s Development Bank, and National Apprenticeship programs.
