Director of Communications for the People’s National Convention (PNC), Emmanuel Wilson has expressed shock at claims by President Akuffo Addo that a debt of $5.2 billion in the energy sector was passed on to his administration by the previous government.
The president in a recent address to Ghanaians in Toronto, Canada stated “government inherited a $5.2-billion debt in Ghana’s energy sector from the previous John Mahama-led NDC administration, half of which has been paid”
The president also stated that “the situation is responsible for the constant power outages which Ghanaians were forced to endure from the previous Mahama-led administration”.

This, the PNC spokesperson describes as misleading and inaccurate and called on Ghanaians to demand that the president provides evidence to back his claims.
“Let me state on authority that the president if he is coming out with these figures is confidently lying to all of us and indeed is disrespecting the intelligence of Ghanaians”
Mr. Wilson urged the president to rather show more concern with the alarming rate at which the energy sector debt continues to pile up under his watch.
He accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration of being inconsiderate to the welfare of the nation and called on opposition to be proactive in ensuring that the government of the day acts in the interest of the Ghanaian.
“It is quite alarming. I have indicated over and over that I think that as opposition political parties of which my party is part of, I think we need to up our game. If indeed we have this nation at heart and not only parading ourselves as politicians.
