Strategic Thinkers Network-Africa (STRANEK AFRICA) has petitioned the office of the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu to prosecute two former appointees of Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) on allegations of corruption contained in the Auditor General’s Report.
The accused, Amoako Twum and Akilu Sajyibu were sacked together with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Gifty Klenam in June 2018.
STANEK AFRICA in a statement issued on Monday 1st July, 2019 expressed worry about the Auditor General’s claim that the two former deputies received and shared clothing allowances amounting to GH₵23, 562 six months after they were sacked.
The A-G also disclosed that Amoako Twum and Akilu Sajyibu still have in their possession official Apple Macbook laptops meant for the office.
“In addition, they took away their official laptops which are Apple MacBook Pro Laptops and they have not returned it. It is important to kindly note that, one of the former deputy CEO’s took GHC 54,340 for soft furnishing despite receiving $60,000 as two years rent allowance in May 2017 which according to the report, it is inappropriate.”
STRANEK AFRICA believes the allegations against the two disclose adequate cause for the Special Prosecutor to initiate criminal proceedings against them and have petitioned the office of the anti-corruption body citing its mandate to prosecute what l “corrupt practices”.
“For taking monies to which they were not entitled, it is our considered view that they have acted in a manner that is corrupt. Per the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959), the onus lies on us to petition your office on matters that involve or may involve corruption and corruption related offences hence our petition to your office”.
“We kindly hope a logical conclusion will be brought on our petition,” the group stated.
