The Volta Region has been selected to host the national launch of the 2019 anti-Bushfire Campaign of the Ghana National Fire Service (G.N.F.S.).
The event would come off at Adaklu Tsrefe in the Adaklu district on October 11, 2019 under the theme “My Environment, My Life – Let Us Stop Bushfire”.
This was disclosed by Director in charge of Rural Fires of the GNFS DCFO Kweku Semekor Fiadzo when he paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa.
DCFO Fiadzo explained that the Adaklu District was chosen to host the national Launch because statistics on bushfire in the region point to the fact that the district is bushfire prone.
He stated that the anti-Bushfire campaign is to create awareness on how best to suppress bushfires as a step to eradicating them completely.
He added the theme was chosen due to the need to protect the environment from bushfires in order to sustain farming and Government’s Flagship Programme of Planting for Food and Jobs
The Volta regional minister Archbald Letsa heartily welcomed DCFO Fiadzo expressing his joy at the choice of the Region to host of the event.
He assured DCFO Fiadzo that the region is ready to host the event as well as ensure its success.
The Regional Minister seized the opportunity to inform the Director that the region would be hosting the 2019 National Farmers Day Celebration as well hold a Trade, Investment and Culture Fair in the last quarter of the year.
The Hon Regional Minister informed the team from the GNFS that a Local Organising Committee for the event will be formed with the Hon. Deputy Regional Minister, Rev, Johnson Avuletey as Chairman with the Volta Regional Commander of the GNFS, ACFO Janet Duah as Secretary.
The Committee would also have the Regional Directors of Agriculture and Forestry Services Division of the Forestry Commission, District Chief Executive for Adaklu District Assembly among others as members.
DCOP Fiadzo was accompanied by the Regional Commander of the GNFS ACOP Janet Duah and her second in command DOI Prince Billey Anaglate while Deputy Regional Minister Rev. Johnson Avuletey, District Chief Executive for Adaklu District Assembly Mr. Kandey Phanuel Donkor, Hon and Chief Director Mr. Felix B. Chaahaah were on the Regional Minister’s team.
