Every Ghanaian qualified and interested in enrolling onto the voter’s register might have to find their way to the district offices of the Electoral Commission (EC) to be enrolled on the voter roll.
This is due to the decision of the EC to ditch the limited voters’ registration exercise in favour of what they refer to as continuous voter registration.
Under the limited voter registration exercise, sets up registration centers at various polling stations for qualified Ghanaians to visit and register.
While the limited voter registration exercise took the process close to the doorsteps of the Ghanaian, the continuous process requires that the Ghanaian goes to the doorsteps of the EC.
Deputy Chairperson of the EC Dr. Bossman Asare told Sena Nombo the EC decided to move away from limited voter registration after the 2016 elections.
He was speaking on an interview on the Gold Morning Conversation.
Dr. Bossman Asare said the intention of the EC is to hold the exercise at only the district offices for an extended period to allow as many eligible Ghanaians as possible to register.
When asked about the plan for areas far removed from their district offices, the Deputy EC Chair said the EC has plans to go to those areas to conduct the registration on the ground.
