“The Supreme Court has no jurisdiction, whether imagined or real to prescribe how the business of Parliament should be conducted.”
That is the reaction of former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central Alhaji Inusah Fuseini to the declaration of the Supreme Court that Deputy Speakers can be counted to vote and vote on matters before Parliament when they take the seat of Speaker of Parliament.
The decision conflicts with the Standing Orders of Parliament which do not allow anyone presiding over proceedings of Parliament to vote.
In an interview with Sena Nombo on the Gold Power Drive, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini who served as a Ranking Member on Parliament’s Select committee said the Supreme lacked the jurisdiction to make the decision.
The former Tamale Central MP said the decision by Parliament amounts to a surreptitious interference with the work of Parliament.
