The Vehicle and Asset Dealers Association of Ghana (VADAG) has sworn to protest until the luxury vehicle levy is scrapped.
The levy was imposed by government on vehicles with engine capacities of 2.9 and above through an act of parliament passed in 2019.
Since its passage, users of such vehicles have been compelled to pay between GH₵1000 and GH₵2000 more when they renew their road worthy certificates.
This has forced severalcar owners to pack their cars with high engine capacities for ones with lower ones.
Speaking on the Gold Power Drive, General Secretary of VADAG Clifford Ansu says several attempts to get government to scrap the levy have fallen on deaf ears with government ignoring their pleas.
According to him the latest attempt at addressing their concerns through a meeting with deputy Finance minister Kweku Kwarteng yielded no results as they are yet to hear from government weeks after the meeting.
He disclosed that the meeting was hurriedly arranged after former President Mahama promised to scrap the levy with an assurance that their concerns will be addressed.
Clifford Ansu said his association has resolved to accept nothing but the total scrapping of the levy and would demonstrate until their demand is met.
The VADAG was speaking in an interview with Sena Nombo after his association declared they would be fully partaking in the upcoming Kum Yen Preko demonstration scheduled for July 9, 2019
