Government has been called upon to as a matter of urgency develop Wassa Fiase of the Western Region especially the various roads in the community.
This, according to the Concerned Citizens of Western Region will give a face lift to the area which has been dire need of critical socio economic infrastructure.
Speaking during a press briefing in Accra, Chairman of the Concerned Citizens of Wassa Fiase, Onyameba Raymond Atta – Kesse said “Wassa Fiase has been under siege for nearly two decades now. The state is in Crisis. We call on the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to direct for the immediate construction of our roads,” he emphasized.
Mr. Atta – Kessen also questioned why there are a lot of big companies operating in the area but yet the communities at Wassa Fiase cannot boast of any form of serious development.
“Wassa Fiase, the Gold bearing state in pre and post colonial history of the Gold Coast and Ghana, remains the richest traditional area of Ghana; Prestea Sankofa Mine, Golden Star Resources Ltd., Bogoso, Golden Star Resources, Wassa Mine, Akyepim, Gold Fields Ltd., Damang Mine, Gold Fields Ltd., Tarkwa Mine, Anglo Gold Ashanti, Iduapriem, Tarkwa Mine, Ghana Manganese Company, Tarkwa.
He also indicate other major agricultural farms in the area citing “Ghana Rubber Estate Ltd., Tarkwa Nsuaem (The biggest rubber plantation in Ghana), and Benso Oil Palm Plantation.
Touching on some raging chieftaincy issues in Wassa Fiase, the Chairman of the Concerned Citizens of Wassa Fiase, Onyameba Raymond Atta – Kesse said “some characters with vested interests including politicians, security personnel, self – styled businessmen, etc have purposely resorted to orchestrating chieftaincy conflicts to undermine the Wassahene to prevent him from having capacity and control of the financial resources of the Wassa Fiase State for its development.”
Mr. Atta – Kesse alleged that “on 20th April, 2002, the name of Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko II was in a very suspicious manner, removed from the National Register of Chiefs, as the Paramount Chief of Wassa Fiase due to a wrongful conviction for Contempt of Court on the 19th April, 2002. The wrongful conviction and sentencing of Odeheno Akrofa Krukoko II was subsequently quashed by the Court of Appeal on the 17th of July, 2002.
He alleged that “Solomon Appiah (styling himself as Nana Kwesi Appiah I), declared Osagyefo Dr. Kwaina Enimil VI as an imposter, after 15 years and orchestrated his removal, citing a 2015 ruling of the Western Regional House of Chiefs in favour of Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko II as the substantive Paramount Chief of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area.”
“Today, Solomon Appiah is at work again, scheming to enstool one Kodwo Assuah (styling himself as Okatakyie Ntsiful), as the Paramount Chief of Wassa Fiase, in spite of the fact that the Stool is not vacant,” he added.
The Chairman of the Concerned Citizens of Wassa Fiase, also indicated that some individuals have frequently been withdrawing millions of Cedis from the Traditional Council’s account where he alleged that Alfred Doodo and Nana Kwesi Akrosa with the consent of Solomon Appiah are the culprits.
“We therefore call on the President, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo to direct the immediate construction of our roads and to direct the Minister of Chieftaincy Affairs not to meddle in the chieftaincy matters of Wassa Fiase if he (the Minister) cannot help us find solutions. We further call for an immediate full audit of the accounts of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council.”

Meanwhile, Mr Atta-Kesse was accompanied by some chiefs and elders of the Wassa Traditional Area, including Nana Kwao Mensah, Chief of Aboaso Dadeiso, Nana Kwbena Amoah III, Gyasehene of Benso, and Nana Kwasi Kyere, Gyasehene of Petepom.
The others are Nana Kwaku Amankwah I, Gyasehene of Dadieso Aboaso, and Nana Kwabena Asante, alias Osofo Donkor, Acting Chief of Aboaso, and some youth of the area.
