Member of Parliament for Tamale South and former Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu has admonished the Electoral Commission to hold further stakeholder engagements on their proposed reforms.
The Tamale South Legislator gave the admonishment at Gushiegu in the Northern region as part of the “Building the Ghana we want Together tour” of the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress John Dramani Mahama.

“We think they must engage further with stakeholders and we do not think that Parliament may be able to build a consensus on that matter” he said.
According to Haruna Iddrisu the proposal to hold general elections in November will require the amendment of article 112(4) and 113 of the 1992 constitution.
“We think this matter should be deferred for the future and allow 2024 election to be held on 7th December”, he stated.
On the proposed time change Mr Haruna said “it defies common sense. The right to vote established under Article 42 is not a divisible right. You cannot tell somebody that when its 3pm go home. That is above Jean Mensah and the Electoral Commission. It is a common sense matter.”
Commenting on the use of indelible ink Mr Haruna said “there is no electoral Commission anywhere in the world and in any democracy it is only relevant so long as political parties are relevant. So she should stay off all this trouble and conduct free fair and credible elections.”
“Why did you use it for NPP primaries and all of a sudden it’s not relevant for general election,” he quizzed.
“Go and think again but we will want results aggregated Polling stations by polling station, Constituency by Constituency,” Haruna Iddrisu stated.
