Every action has consequences, and governments the world over are guarded by this ancient wisdom.
The reason why President Akufo Addo with his NPP government found themselves in this mess of a ‘Looming’ Diplomatic Brawl spreading so wildly like bush fire between Ghana and Nigeria is simple; Nana Addo and his NPP never take responsibility for anything!
It is their modus operandi; they have never been responsible. Yet they are the first to jump on the stage demanding praise even when we all know that the praise is not due them. (THEY DON’T DESERVE PRAISE)
Let’s not be quick to be overly hard on the Nigerian High Commission for the statement they issued. It is within their diplomatic right to raise their voices against any unfair treatment meted out at them by their host nation.
If other countries will treat Ghanaian citizens anyhow and get away with it, and our leaders won’t say anything about it, trust that Nigeria not to be quiet.
It is important to stress that I’m not saying there are no criminals in Nigeria or Nigerian Criminals don’t exist. They do. In fact in their numbers.
However, you cannot throw accusations at them just to “save face”.
Let’s be honest, and face the truth head on.
Akufo Addo’s government created this situation and failed to handle this matter of kidnapping professionally even in the eyes of his own Ghanaian citizens when the story first broke.
Ghanaians, Nigerians and other foreign missions in Ghana have been living witnesses to how a whole CID boss Tiwaa Addo Dankwa, was either forced or ignorantly told us she was giving a false #Hope to the families of the Tadi girls who were kidnapped some 8 months ago.
These families were made to believe that the government and for that matter the CID knew the where about of the kidnapped girls.
Later this CID boss of ours openly came out to admit that she was joking.
What was their next move? Blame Ofosu Ampofo for the kidnapping when they knew that the accusation had no leg to stand on.
Luck was not on their side. Ofosu Ampofo decided to hand over the #BattlestotheLord because under his veneer of toughness he still recognizes his God.
Now just when an arrest was made in the case of the kidnapped Canadian Charity Aid workers, quickly Akuffo Addo’s government sees an opportunity to again jump on the stage eagerly waiting to receive praises and commendation.
What role did they play? I asked. And they lined them up as follows:
- They say Col Opoku led the rescue operation with ASP Azugu. Azugu???? The Mosquito Commander?
- I asked, who else was part? Then they said the Ayawaso Wuogon thugs.
- How did they do that? The thugs posed for a memorable picture with the lead suspect, Seidu Mba and his accomplices.
- What did they do next? To Get the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, to tell us that the kidnapping was done by Nigerians with some minor assistance from their Ghanaian counterparts.
The minister however failed to give us the names of these Nigerians who led the kidnapping, whether the names were Okechuku, Okafor, Omagbemi we do not know.
The Nigerian High Commission felt that Ghana’s government could have handled this matter with tact and distinction, yes more diplomatically. The reason is simple, they heard and saw how the Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo defended the Chinese Galamsey Queen Aisha Huang with his life and even insulted our intelligence making it look like without the Chinese we will all go to bed on empty stomach.
So they felt as next door neighbours they were also entitled to be accorded the same defence line even if it is proven that they Nigerians were the actual perpetrators of the kidnapping.
But let it be in our prayers that Kojo Oppong Nkrumah’s reckless accusation of kidnapping against the Nigerians will not degenerate into a chaotic relationship between two fraternal brother’s who have long loved each other despite their many differences.
