A former Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA) Kwame Osei Griffiths has taken the NIA to task for the issuance of a Non-Citizen Identification card to embattled Chinese immigrant En Huang.
The NIA in a statement, confirmed it issued the ID which made the rounds on social media to the Chinese national after she resurfaced in the country.
The NIA explained that En Huang only renewed an ID card she acquired in 2014.

Speaking in an interview with Sena Nombo who is host of the Gold Morning Conversation, Executive Secretary of the NIA Prof Ken Attafuah confirmed that the ID was issued even though En Huang turned up at the Tamale FIMS Registration Center with a passport that bore the name Ruixia Huang and the date of birth 07 November 1975.
According to the NIA Boss, Ms Huang had turned up as first time registrant but was flagged by the FIMS system as ‘RejectedDueAFIS’ as her biometrics were already in the system.
He said the issue was resolved and Ms Huang was issued an ID card with the details that already existed in the system.

In a sharp rebuttal, Ken Attafuah’s predecessor, Kwame Osei Griffiths told Sena Nombo, Ms Huang should have rather been flagged for prosecution for violating Section 40 of the National Identity Register Act, Act 750.
He was surprised at the speed with which Ms Huang’s issue was adjudicated when such issues take time to resolve because they border on fraud and multiple registrations.
Mr. Osei Griffiths said the mismatch in the details provided by Ms Huang on 25 August 2022 and the fact that she turned up in Tamale for a new registration should have been instant redflags.
He wondered how Ms Huang’s case was resolved in record time when Ghanaians queued for days to have much more innocuous issues adjudicated.
