Government’s preferred Architect for big infrastructural projects Sir David Adjaye is not licensed to operate in Ghana.
That is according to an organization calling itself Design Associates Development Consortium (DADC).
Sir David Adjaye is the lead Architect for UK based Adjaye and Associates and is said to be behind architectural designs and drawings for majority of big budget projects executed under this government.
He is said to have earned over $1million for the designs of the controversial proposed parliamentary complex.
In three page letter to President Akufo-Addo, DADC says the UK based architect is not qualified to operate in the country.
“Sir David Adjaye who is the Principal Architect for Adjaye and Associates, to the best of my knowledge, is not licensed or registered to carry on the profession of an Architect under the Architects Decree, 1968 (NRCD 357) as amended. He is not a member of the Ghana Institute of Architects.”
“Furthermore, neither himself nor Adjaye and Associates has been registered by the Architects Registration Council pursuant to Architects Decree (NRCD 357) as amended,” the organization stated.
DADC in the letter to the President also argued that Sir Adjaye is “disqualified from being registered as an architect licensed to operate in Ghana” by the same law because he is not “ordinarily resident in the country.
The group expressed shock at what it sees as the violation of the Public Procurement Act by the various state institutions that have so far contracted Sir David Adjaye to undertake 12 major contracts.
David Adjaye is behind the architectural designs of the National Cathedral, Marine Drive master plan, trade fair center redesign among others.
