Mortuary workers across the country have this morning declared an indefinite strike action.
The Workers have laid down their tools in demand for better working conditions which the Ministry of Health has failed to address.
In a press statement to announce the decision, General Secretary of the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG), Mr Richard Kofi Jordan said members will not give in to any form of intimidation neither would they be forced to rescind their decision when their demand are not addressed.
The Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana has raised concerns over the lack of maintenance of mortuary facilities, denial of their mandated annual leave, failure to review their remuneration, and the lack of protective clothing among others.
The group had earlier announced a
similar nationwide strike scheduled for Thursday, 2 May 2019 but later rescinded
its decision upon the intervention by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission
(FWSC).
They say they are forced to take the current stance because a roadmap to
address their demands has still not been reached.
